Front End Maintenance – Service Visit

$4000 Ball Joints?! Well, sorta…

As I get the Bentley Arnage ready to sell, one of the major maintenance projects that needs to be completed is a front end service. The ball joints on the Bentley Arnage and Rolls Royce Silver Seraph are well-known for ball joints prematurely failing. The cars are massive, so all the weight causes these components to wear out relatively quickly.

In addition to the upper and lower ball joints being replaced, the drop link anti-roll bar and isolator springs are being replaced as well. All these parts will make for a smoother ride, as is expected for a Bentley.

Part Numbers:

  • Isolator Springs – PART# PD22923PA-A (Genuine Bentley Parts) 2 x required
  • Lower Ball Joints – PART# 3Z0419811 (Prestige Parts) 2 x required
  • Upper Ball Joints – PART# PD20799PC (Prestige Parts) 2 x required
  • Drop Link Anti Roll Bar – PART# PD29185PB (Prestige Parts) 2 x required

The parts are from IntroCar (http://www.introcar.com)
All of the parts (with the exception of the isolator springs) are Prestige Parts and offer a 3-year Warranty. A huge thank you to Introcar for providing the parts for this video. Parts total for this service was $1224.

Labor cost for this service was $3000. A lot of work goes into dismantling the front end of the Bentley Arnage. A skilled home mechanic with the proper tools could perform this project. The processes requires removing most of the front suspension components. The springs need to be compressed properly, a potentially danger if done correctly. A press is also needed for inserting the ball joints.

Howabout saying the number of labor hours? $3000 doesn’t give me an idea of what I might pay unless I am charged the same as your mechanic per hour.

Amazingly the total for this job is less than my Audi specialist quotes for the the same work on my 2013 Audi S5 Cabrio in 2021
